Better Buzz Coffee seeks an ASSISTANT CONTROLLER!

Reporting to our Chief Financial Officer, the Assistant Controller will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day corporate accounting and banking functions.  The Assistant Controller will play a critical role in supporting the company's rapid growth by ensuring accurate and timely internal and external financial reporting, as well as oversight of treasury.  Responsibilities also include management of the outsourced accounting group and administrator of the ERP system.  This newly created position is an in-office position.

Our pay range for this new position is $135,000.00 - $150,000.00.  This position is not bonus-eligible.

• Manage the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements and covenant compliance
• Manage month-end and year-end Close processes, ensuring compliance with GAAP principles as well as federal, state and local financial requirement
• Oversee weekly Cash Flow reporting and management
• Management of outsourced accounting group
  • Weekly trade and development accounts payable invoice processing
  • Weekly cash disbursement review and approval
  • Monthly review and approval of all general ledger entries and financials
  • Sales tax review and approval
  • Reconcile and validate all balance sheet account balances
• NetSuite (ERP) administrator
• Manage year end close and audit process
• Prepare/review calculation of monthly, quarterly, and annual bonuses
• Manage internal and external audits to ensure compliance
• Evaluate contract and lease documents to ensure appropriate accounting, coding and payments
• Work with outsourced accounting provider to ensure the accurate and timely payment of all lease payments and reporting (monthly, quarterly, and annually) on all properties, including percentage rent, and the review of all rent expense to ensure consistency with GAAP requirements.  Review and approve landlord Common Area Maintenance fee reconciliations
• Own accounting setup for new stores
• Responsible for Treasury / banking management, including bank relationships, cash management, new store account openings, and armored car services
• Maintain accounting controls and define accounting policies and procedures
• Support management through weekly and monthly reporting
• Perform other essential duties and various special projects as needed
• Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, etc.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required – CPA preferred
• Experience in restaurant and/or multi-unit retail company a plus
• 7+ years progressively responsible experience in accounting
• Experience in identifying, implementing and leveraging disparate systems to provide timely and robust reporting and analytics
• Proven knowledge and understanding of GAAP, accrual basis accounting and financial reporting
• Strong management skills and ability to identify, build and motivate a talented team
• Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, including proficiency in Excel
• Proven team player, cross-functional partner, as well as individual contributor
• Driven personality and desire to grow with the company
• Excellent interpersonal, organizational, math and analytical skills
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing in order to meet deadlines
• Ability to work effectively as a team member in resolving related problems and/or issues
• Attention to detail
